Mesa Verde ColoradoMesa Verde National Park in Colorado is famous for its nearly 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings.  These were home to the Ancestral Pueblo people who lived there from 600 to 1300 AD. The National Park is now seeking a contractor to produce three short films for visitors to the site.

Mesa Verde Three Short Films

Mesa Verde National Park was established primarily to protect the park’s numerous archeological sites – including 600 cliff dwellings. Much of the park’s interpretive program has been dedicated to describing the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made this area their home for over 700 years, from AD 600 to 300. While the park’s rich cultural legacy is fascinating it is not the only park story worth interpreting.

Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, rises over 1000 feet above the surrounding area. Its unique geology not only supported the Ancestral Puebloan way of life, but it creates an island-like habitat for numerous endemic species. Fire has always had a role in this ecosystem, but recent climate change has dramatically altered the natural fire regime with serious consequences for both cultural and natural resources.

These short films will help fill in the gaps by interpreting topics that haven’t traditionally been addressed in the park’s interpretive program including geology, endemic species, and fire. The films will include the role of climate change and its impact on the park’s natural and cultural resources. Although these topics are distinct from the cultural stories that are typically interpreted, they are intricately connected to the park’s cultural legacy and those connections should be highlighted in the films.

The purpose of this contract is to provide all audiovisual services to create three 5-minute interpretive films for Mesa Verde National Park in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado.  The contractor shall provide all services, including labor, materials, equipment, facilities, fees, subject matter research, and travel necessary to produce three 5-minute interpretive films for Mesa Verde National Park in Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado that will be posted on the web, used in social media, and shown in the park’s theater in addition to the park’s main film.
