Local governments and the Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers Association (SMZT) have committed to investing at least PLN 16 million over five years to establish Szyb Staszic, a new cultural institution within the 18th-century Staszic Shaft, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Staszic Shaft, known for its innovative use of a steam engine for water extraction, plays a crucial role in the area’s mining history and cultural heritage. The Silesian Voivodeship and the city of Tarnowskie Góry will each contribute PLN 7.5 million, with SMZT adding PLN 1 million for the Szyb Staszic project. The funding aims to enhance the historic mining site’s accessibility and promote its heritage as part of a broader effort to bolster post-industrial tourism in the region, supported by EU investment.
