The numbers
We published 222 tenders. In the same week in 2023, we published 195. Including work for 14 new museums, visitor centres, libraries, and storage facilities. Interestingly, we published 6 audience research, strategy and development tenders across UK/Ireland, Europe and North America.
The story
As you'll see below, we had many tenders focused on audience development and collections management, reflecting a wider theme of institutions working to enhance visitor engagement by looking out at how to better connect with audiences and improving their visitor offering by looking inward at their collections or operations. The audience development contracts ranged from research to strategic planning for major cities and cultural sites. The collections management and storage projects included preparing objects for transport, managing inventories for renowned institutions like the Louvre, and planning new storage facilities to service multiple museums.

- Pompeii Archaeological Park: Architectural-Engineering Services for Feasibility Project and Design Phase. The estimated contract value is up to €262,604.16. (9 September)
- Weatherspoon Art Museum, North Carolina: Center for Art and Human Understanding. The estimated contract value is $1,700,000. (23 August 2024)

The competitions
- Amiens Métropole: Architectural Design Contest for New Library in Boves. The estimated prize winnings are €10,000. The contract will be awarded to one of the contest winners, and the winner's prize will be considered in the contract remuneration. (25 July 2024)
- Michigan State University: Permanent Memorial Conceptual Design Competition. (30 August 2024)
The standouts
The standouts are the most exciting projects, regardless of size or contract value.
- The Portico Library: Activity Planner. This key role will explore how Portico engages with audiences, asking 'who we need to listen to, and what activities will do in the future work', with Portico's 19th-century collection housed in the Greek revival building. The estimated contract value is up to £20,000. (12 August 2024)
- The Museum of East Asian Art: Audience Development Consultant. The Audience Development Consultant will develop an understanding of the marketplace and how to position the brand within the wider museums landscape. The estimated contract value is up to £6,500, including expenses and VAT. (5 August 2024)
- Destination BC Corp, British Columbia: Indigenous Learning Plan Destination BC is looking for consultants to develop an internal curriculum to improve employee cultural competency as it relates to Indigenous Peoples. (14 August 2024)
- Gmina Klucze: Virtual Reality Exhibition for Dietl Manor. The project aims to produce an immersive Virtual Reality-based interactive exhibition to 'revive the historical splendour of the manor's interiors, lost in the post-war years.' (19 August 2024)
 The pick of the week
This week we have two picks of the week, for interactive experiences in North America.
- The first is for the City of Tulsa, which is seeking a contractor to develop a new Interactive Route 66 Digital Experience, comprising 20 site-specific, immersive installations that overlay visual or auditory information with the built environment of the Mother Road. (28 August 2024)
- The second is for the Saint Louis Science Centre in Missouri. They seek Interpretive Planning and Design Services for their Cretaceous Diorama and T-Rex Experience Update. This will include using the most state-of-the-art mechanical animated robotic dinosaur (or other advanced technology), software, and hardware equipment to create a visual, engaging activity as an update to the current diorama.
