Berwick Barracks in Berwick-upon-Tweed was built by the British government in the wake of the Jacobite rising and is the largest barracks built in England from the 18th century. Plans are underway to redevelop the site into a mixed public occupancy through a combination of residential, cultural, heritage, creative industries and commercial use (pictured). Northumberland County Council was to appoint a multi-disciplinary design team to design a new cultural venue for Berwick-upon-Tweed. The successful contractor is MICA Architects Limited, and the total contract value is £2,180,426.67.
