In 2013, the Carnegie Library Winnipeg Archive building (pictured), built in 1904, underwent a major renovation to become a state-of-the-art archival facility with a temperature- and humidity-controlled storage vault. However, the building sustained extensive water damage when a hole in its roof was left uncovered by contractors. The archival collections were removed, and the building has remained empty. Now, the City of Winnipeg has allocated $12.6 million CAD from its 2023 preliminary budget capital investment plan to restore the former City Archives building.
