SUMMARY

Oxford’s Story Museum is about to embark on “chapter two” of its transformation, after its successful opening in 2014. Current visitors to the attraction can engage in the art of storytelling through a programme of installations in its south wing. The new phase will redevelop the remaining two-thirds of the Rochester House building to provide new gallery and exhibition spaces, as well as a 120-seat theatre, learning studio, early years play space and resource room. Plans also include a multi-media space, immersive “Enchanted Library” and “Treasure Chamber” for displaying collection items. The construction project is being led by architects Purcell, which includes external walkways and a new external lift in the courtyard. It is hoped that this £6 million Heritage Lottery Fund and Arts Council backed project will triple current visitor numbers, once it opens in spring 2020.
