Tate Modern is one of the world’s great museums of modern and contemporary art and more than 40 million people have visited Tate Modern since its opening in 2000. They are now seeking a Head of Exhibitions, and the post pays in the region of £50,000 per year.

The Head of Exhibitions will be joining Tate as they launch the opening of the oil tanks in the summer of 2012 and are planning for the transformation of the gallery spaces due to be delivered by 2016.

The Head of Exhibitions will work as one of the senior management team reporting to the Director of Tate Modern, Chris Dercon. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall delivery of the public programme for Tate Modern including acquisitions and have lead responsibility for the development of content for Tate Modern's programme of exhibitions, commissions, film and live events.

The proposed postholder will be recognised for their artistic vision and innovation in the conception and execution of exhibition programmes, and will have scholarly expertise in at least one area of pre-second-world-war art, a wide knowledge of contemporary global artistic practices and photography and an understanding of the challenges of working with live art, performance and film. They will be able to combine curatorial flair with excellent operational and leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively and make an effective contribution to a senior management team. The ability to inspire colleagues, share expertise and support the development of Tate's curatorial team is essential. International in outlook, the ability to speak a second language would also be an advantage.
