Experiential Projection Design Services

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking to contract an Experiential Projection Designer with advanced technical and audio visual design experience for a portion of our exhibition Treasures of Ancient Egypt: Sunken Cities. The exhibition dates are scheduled for May 2020 through January 2021, with load in and installation of A/V equipment to occur in late April 2020.

The Contract Designer shall work closely and collaboratively with the VMFA Exhibition Designer, Project Manager, Lighting and Technical Designers, to develop the video design, content, installation, and support for maintenance of the first gallery of the exhibition. The Contract Designer shall provide all AV components for a complete stand-alone system, including all necessary projection equipment, cables, converters, temporary wire molding/dressing, speakers, and amplifiers. The Contract Designer shall be responsible for maintaining the system for the duration of the nine-month exhibition.

Sunken Cities presents a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the recovered treasures of two powerful Egyptian cities that sank into the Mediterranean 1,200 years ago after cataclysmic events. The exhibition includes stunning works of art brought to the surface by archaeologists beginning in 1996. The first gallery of Sunken Cities shall include an immersive underwater video on three walls and will require multi-projector edge blending and projection mapping around entrances/exits and artwork. Projections should be focused on three 15’ tall walls and design may require an accompanying sound installation that will require additional equipment rental, installation, and content. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, and related resources necessary to provide experiential projection design services for the Sunken Cities.

Interested contractors should go to this link for further information.

Deadline for submissions is 20 January 2020, by 2pm EST.
