Museum Looks to Future of E Commerce

The British Museum Company has created a new role for a Business Development Manager to maximise Museum revenues through its online business operations.  Visitors to the Museum and customers from around the world can use the internet site www.britishmuseum.org to learn about the collection and to buy books, replicas, gift merchandise, images, tickets and
membership.   As our online presence increases, the Business Development Manager will act as a co-ordinator of online sales activity for many different Museum areas ensuring an exceptional customer experience and that the full online commercial potential is met.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Business Development Manager will have direct line management responsibility for the teams providing BMCo e-commerce sales, customer services and BM Images.  Key responsibilities will include developing Museum-wide e-commerce policy and new market opportunities, assisting in the development of new product ranges and ensuring consistently high standards of customer service across the online business.

We are looking for a strong leader with excellent management, commercial and communication skills.  Applicants should have a business qualification or a strong record of achievement in similar businesses and experience working in a senior commercial role for a leading online retailer.  Technical understanding of information and web-based systems and strong analytical skills are also essential for this challenging new role.
