Exhibition & Interior Designer

Studio MB, a specialist design agency based in Edinburgh, are looking for a talented, enthusiastic Designer with excellent interior finishing skills to join our evolving creative team.

Applicants should be talented and thorough designers capable of designing a range of environments for visitor attractions, museums and exhibitions. Although the ideal candidate will contribute to the design and implementation of all projects, the role will specialise in the specification of finishes and furnishings for the non-exhibition elements of some of our larger projects.

All applicants should have proven experience in a similar role (although this may be in a different design discipline) and must be highly skilled in delivering FF&E and technical packages. You should have demonstrable experience working on large scale commercial projects and a well-presented portfolio highlighting your ability to convey creative ideas to a broad range of clients.

Role and responsibility:

  • assisting in the development of projects from conception to completion
  • generating ideas and concept development
  • detailing interior layouts
  • producing technical drawings and tender packages
  • sourcing and selection of FF&E, preparation of specifications and schedules
  • producing FF&E finishes boards
  • spatial planning and furniture layouts
  • develop detailed drawing packs including: joinery, doors, architraves, and residential areas
  • managing deadlines
  • managing the sample library, arranging samples loans, their shipment and creating & maintaining a samples directory
  • building client and supplier relationships

Skills:

  • creative conceptual design
  • advanced knowledge of Sketch up, Photoshop, Podium and Adobe software programs such as InDesign
  • proficient with 2D AutoCAD
  • excellent FF&E knowledge and high-end joinery and design detailing
  • self confident with a positive attitude, able to inspire others
  • ability to collaborate with colleagues and other consultants
  • able to plan, organise and multi task
  • knowledge of industry standards
  • some understanding of current UK building regulations
  • ability to identify issues, provide timely solutions and prioritise
  • self motivated and focused
  • excellent written and communication skills
  • exceptional attention to detail
  • produce CAD drawings for presentation (plans, elevations, sections, details) and specification
  • ability to prepare presentations through use of Adobe software programs such as InDesign
  • prepare relevant schedules for issue to a contractor
  • consideration of materials and cost according to set budget

  • Excellent software skills working on a Mac. Vectorworks, Sketchup and Creative Suite are our studio standard packages.
