lone visitor croppedCultural Innovations are an international museum and cultural heritage planning consultancy.  They are now seeking an experienced Interpretation Planner to provide maternity leave cover for their Head of Content and Intepretation.

The company works with clients to define and develop new museums, cultural centres and visitor experiences from project definition to delivery. The projects are national and international with most of the international projects being in the Middle East. The core services are Content and Interpretation, Museum and Exhibition Design, Masterplanning Strategy and Consulting,

Cultural Innovations are looking for an experienced Interpretation Planner who can provide maternity cover for their Head of Content and Interpretation. The role involves leading on consultancy areas that concern audiences, content development and interpretive planning for museums and cultural experiences.

The role requires the development of project definition documents for clients during the early stages of projects, defining the vision, mission and rationale for projects; interpretation strategies; design briefs and content for all stages of projects from concept to detailed design. Good organisational and planning skills will be required to plan human resource needs of projects, manage project programmes and produce reports for clients to deadline. The appointment and management of freelance interpretation consultants will sometimes be required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead content, interpretation and public programming consultancy projects for Cultural Innovations
• Work directly with clients to understand their needs, advise on appropriate scopes of work and provide sound interpretive planning guidance
• Identify resources and programmes for all content and interpretation projects
• Write project proposals for clients, identifying the pertinent consultancy services and deliverables that will meet their needs
• Write project definition documents to identify vision, mission, aims and business cases for museum and cultural projects ranging from new museums and cultural developments to individual exhibitions or visitor experiences
• Develop interpretation strategies based on context research
• Develop interpretive concepts that consider target audience motivations and fulfil engagement and educational outcomes
• Work with our design team and external consultants on concept, scheme and detailed design stages of projects
• Where necessary, appoint experienced freelance consultants for specific projects and co-ordinate their work
• Quality assure all content and interpretation
• Plan and manage projects
• Work with the Cultural Innovations team to develop creative pitches and tender submissions to win new work
• Maintain existing interpretive planning processes and styles
• Represent Cultural Innovations at tender interviews and in new business opportunities
• Some international travel will be required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Accomplished Interpretive Planner with several years’ experience from museums and/or cultural consultancy
• Creative and enthusiastic
• Enjoys working as part of a team
• Able to lead on large and small scale projects
• Able to work in focused way to, often, very tight deadlines
• Interest in international cultures
• Excellent English writing and editing skills
• Efficient organiser, project planner and project manager
• Good eye for detail
• Experience working in the Middle East desirable but not essential
