About the role

We believe that a National Trust visit should be more than just a nice day out.  We aim to stimulate, provoke and engage people with the spirit of our places, while achieving the highest standards of conservation.  As our Interpretation National Specialist, you’ll be the leading source of expertise in this area, providing inspiration and practical advice to help us create more exciting, challenging and meaningful experiences, in both our built and outdoor places. Your role will be to advise, guide and train colleagues in the latest ideas, techniques, technology and research for interpretation and creative programming. You’ll also be an ambassador for our work externally, building relationships, speaking at events and talking to the media.

We have properties across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and so this role will involve extensive travel.

About you

You have substantial experience of leading creative presentation, programming or interpretation projects, in either heritage, museums, the arts or the natural environment.  You’ll have a structured approach to visitor experience planning along with an understanding of the issues involved with balancing conservation constraints with creative interventions. Proactive and enthusiastic, you’re an outstanding communicator and influencer who is not afraid to challenge established priorities and practices when needed. Collaboration will be at the heart of your role so you’ll need to be an inspirational leader and enjoy teaching and mentoring others. You’re brilliantly organised with excellent attention to detail and a talent for multi-tasking and managing multiple projects at the same time.

Incredibly rewarding

Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career. We’ll give you the training, support and continued professional development you need, and we appreciate that work/life balance is important. You can also look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here. About us

We’re a charity founded in 1895 by three people who saw the importance of our nation’s heritage and open spaces and wanted to preserve them for everyone to enjoy. Over 100 years later these values are still at the heart of everything we do. We want people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy, be inspired by and love the places we look after as much as we do. We want everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to feel like a member of the National Trust and, by 2020, we want to have grown our membership to more than five million.
