old-royal-observatoryThe National Maritime Museum is one of the leading Museums in Britain and the largest of its kind in the world. The estate includes the main Museum buildings, the Queen’s House, the Royal Observatory, the Peter Harrison Planetarium and the Cutty Sark ship.  They are now seeking a Head of Exhibitions and Galleries Project Management.  The post pays up to £60,000 per year.

The Head of Exhibitions and Galleries Projects is a senior manager within the Museum reporting to the Director, Programming and Exhibitions and will take responsibility for managing the delivery of all exhibition, gallery and touring projects.

With the opening of the Sammy Ofer Wing in 2011, the Museum has dramatically increased its ambitions and output of exhibition projects. This role will be at the centre of this exciting and transformative time in the museum’s history. With a set 5 year programme of activity, this post will be responsible for delivering including two new large temporary exhibitions a year, numerous large capital projects, and gallery refurbishments.

The post will responsible for further professionalising our project management teams, ensuring the delivery of this programme and bringing significant practical experience of managing permanent and/or temporary exhibition projects to the organisation.

The Head of Exhibitions and Galleries Projects will ensure that the Strategy for Public Engagement is delivered as well as enhanced and that there is continued quality and excellence delivered in our public offer.

The post works closely with a variety of senior managers and engages with a range of internal and external stakeholders.  The post works as part of the Programming and Exhibitions management group and will establish a close and co-operative working relationship with other senior managers particularly Design and Digital, Learning and Interpretation, and Science Learning.  This position will lead in managing the relationship with design and fabrication firms.
