edinburghThe Nationaal Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh are now seeking an Interim Head of Exhibitions and Design for a period of 9 months while they recruit the post permanently. The successful candidate will lead the new department responsible for Exhibitions, Displays, Design and Technical support.  The post in Edinburgh will pay in the region of  £44,482 – £51,822, pro rata.

National Museums Scotland is one of the UK’s leading museums services. It has a national and international reach and is responsible for the acquisition, preservation and display of a substantial part of Scotland’s cultural, historic and national heritage. The collection of National Museums Scotland includes over four million objects which are displayed at four museum sites and across growing digital channels as well through exhibitions and loans. The collection encompass a broad range of internationally important collections in subject areas such as archaeology, world cultures, natural sciences, science and technology, decorative and applied arts and Scottish history and culture.

Exhibitions and Design is a newly created department in the Public Programmes Directorate which has a key responsibility for developing the public offering. The department organises a vibrant exhibition programme often working with national and international partners. The programme includes ‘blockbusters' as well as a series of major and smaller temporary exhibitions to engage and inspire audiences. There is also a major programme of display-based projects in the permanent galleries. All of these developments are supported by the Design and Technical Support team.

We are looking for an Interim Head of Exhibitions and Design for a period of 9 months while we recruit to the post permanently. You will lead the new department responsible for Exhibitions, Displays, Design and Technical support.

The key responsibilities will include:

Leadership and development of a team of 21 people

  • Manage the delivery of the exhibition programme
  • Ensure the delivery of quality services to support the Exhibition and Display programmes
  • Continue to develop good cross-departmental planning processes

Demonstrating strong project management and people management skills, you will be degree qualified and have a proven track record of achievement in these areas.
