The Landmark Trust is a building preservation charity, founded in 1965 to rescue historic and architecturally interesting buildings and their surroundings from neglect and, when restored, to give them new life by letting them as places to experience for holidays.  They are now seeking a Head of the Historic Estate, who will be responsible for the nearly 200 buildings in the care of the charity.  The post pays up to £60,000 per year, plus car.

Once restored, Landmarks are let as inspiring places to stay with the income generated supporting their on-going maintenance to ensure that they will never again fall into decay.

As Head of the Historic Estate, the successful candidate will have responsibility for the conservation and presentation of our historic buildings, both the maintenance of existing buildings and the management of new projects and the research and engagement activities which both underpin and express our buildings’ value. In addition to this substantial operational responsibility, acting as a member of our Management Board, the postholder will help to develop the forward strategy of the organisation and manage its administration as well as engaging proactively with sector leaders and conservation professionals on the historical significance of our estate and our conservation philosophy.

In addition to a relevant post graduate qualification, all candidates should have had proven experience of managing sensitive historic buildings and repair projects, defining conservation philosophies and contributing to the public professional debate on historic buildings. An experienced manager of budgets and people, the candidate will have outstanding communication skills and be confident in liaising with external senior stakeholders.
