The Historic Properties Department in English Heritage is responsible for the overall management of 412 outstanding sites in its care, ensuring the highest affordable standards of maintenance, conservation, presentation an and visitor experience across this national collection of historic buildings.  They are now seeking an Estates Director to oversee a budget of up to £30 million and a staff of 50.  This post, which has recently been created, pays £65,000 per year.

As part of a major restructure of their business, English Heritage have created the new role of Estates Director, to help deliver a challenging, ambitious and exciting range of work programmes across some of the country's very finest and most significant historic sites.

Reporting to the Historic Properties Director, the Estates Director will be responsible for the development and delivery of conservation and maintenance programmes across the historic estate, and for the delivery of an ambitious and innovative capital development programme for the enhancement of the portfolio, primarily through major refurbishment and representation schemes, in order to secure their long term financial viability and ensure their future preservation.  The new post is responsible for around 50 staff and an average annual budget of around £25-30m. The successful candidate will have significant experience within the cultural sector, including practical building conservation, the management of a department, external consultants and large budgets, as well as a successful track record in delivering maintenance and capital projects across a diverse portfolio of properties in a sensitive and complex environment.
